Description
Quantum key distribution (QKD) offers unconditional security based (in principle) solely on the laws of physics. This level of security is unprecedented – classical cryptography always relies on assumptions about the computational hardness of certain problems, leaving open the possibility that encryption might be broken. This research field is currently in an exciting transition phase, with theoretical ideas moving to experimental implementation and gaining increasing attention from industry. This summer school is a five-day program that aims at providing comprehensive education on the mathematical and theoretical foundations of QKD, including connections to experiments, current developments and practical exercises. The goal is to equip young researchers with a solid foundation in relevant concepts and techniques, enabling them to pursue their own independent research.
