Description

Hyperkähler manifolds are beautiful geometric objects of great interest in algebraic geometry, differential geometry, geometric representation theory, mirror symmetry, theoretical physics and many other fields. They are also extremely rare: indeed, the known compact hyperkähler manifolds come in only 2 infinite families and 2 exceptional cases.

Since O’Grady constructed these exceptional examples more than 25 years ago there had been very little further progress until a number of exciting new ideas were introduced into the area in the last 5 years. These ideas come from dramatically different fields, and the workshop will bring experts from across these areas to facilitate an exchange of expertise and techniques between different parts of this diverse subject. Our aim is to counter the hyper-specialization that naturally occurs in such a technical area that uses such a wide range of techniques.

The workshop will be structured around 3 daily invited lectures, leaving a lot of time for discussion. There will be a number of short presentations by young researchers, which will allow them to introduce their work to the experts and spark further discussions. The meeting will double up as a meeting to honor the 60th birthday of Daniel Huybrechts— a central figure in both the field and these recent developments.
