Description
ALPS (Advanced Lectures in Physics in Switzerland) is a series of junior schools in theoretical physics held in the Swiss mountains. Its main goal is to foster fruitful collaborations among young researchers from diverse backgrounds. This is achieved through inspiring discussions between participants and lectures that bridge seemingly distinct areas of modern theoretical physics. The involvement of outstanding junior lecturers at the cutting edge of their respective fields of research further stimulates collaboration and exchange among the participants.
The fourth edition will explore the quantum dynamics of many-body systems, employing recent theoretical frameworks such as quantum circuits, channels, and measurements. It will take place at the SwissMAP Research Station in the village of Les Diablerets. The school will feature lectures, exercise sessions, a colloquium talk, a closing discussion panel, as well as social and leisure activities. The program will consist of three mini-courses of 6 hours each, covering the following topics:
- Open and monitored systems
- Quantum circuits and black hole information
- Driven systems
The school is primarily aimed at PhD students in theoretical physics, as well as highly motivated Master students. Applications from early postdoctoral researchers may also be considered. People from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply, and financial support is available upon request.
