Description

The Junior Euler Society (JES) is the outreach program of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Zurich (UZH). The aim of JES is to provide interested young people of all school levels the opportunity to deal with mathematics beyond the school program.

In addition to regular events, JES annually holds international summer and winter academies, which on the one hand enable the exchange between the participants and on the other hand promote in-depth discussion of mathematical problems. The participants of these academies concern themselves during the whole week in German and English with such topics as mathematics of the chessboard, cryptology, graph theory, game theory, compass and straight-edge construction of Gothic windows, mathematical riddles and puzzles etc. The supporting program consists usually of visiting the industrial companies (e.g. GOOGLE), the natural science museums (e.g. ”Technorama”) and cultural and historical sightseeing (e.g. Schloss Laufen on the Rhine falls). The Summer Academy 2026 is planned for ca. 40 participants in the age 13-18 years accompanied by 5 mathematicians/mathematics teachers from Switzerland and EU.
